Iris has moved to New York to get away from her ex-boyfriend Adam, and start a new life. She gets a job at a noodle shop, and becomes best friends with the owner Bobby, who also rents her an apartment. She has become a bit of a shut-in, but Bobby drags her to a food festival, where she sees gelato shop, and it looks familiar to her. Turns out her mother had a history with it, and was even given their secret vanilla recipe. The owner of the shop has had a stroke, and the recipe is lost at the moment, as only two people know it. She goes to the shop, meets Gio, the son and current person running the shop, and offers to help him try to recreate the recipe, even though she has it. She and Gio become close, but she’s keeping secrets from him, and is afraid once he learns the truth he won’t want to be with her anymore. When his uncle comes home he knows who she is, and then her ex Adam shows up, and then her new family springs into action, and Iris may just have everything she ever wanted. This is a great rom-c0m, they don’t get much better than this one. The characters are well-written, and you root for them along the way. And by the time you finish the novel, you’ll be hungry for gelato.
