Claire Hopper is 18 and lives in a small Connecticut town and in her final year in high school. She lives with her mom, who divorced her dad years ago, and has a brother in college. She has secrets she hasn’t told anyone, she is a former child star, and had a different name. She left the business years ago and lives a simple life. That all changes when her former costar, Luke Cordova, who has become a big star, arrives in town to shoot a movie. When he asks Claire for help before the movie shoots, he offers her big money to show him around and what life is like as a high school student. As they spend time together, she notices what a different person he has become, and they kiss and fall for each other. When pictures of them together are put online, her whole past is revealed, and it causes problems in her life with her friends and at school. Luke is told to keep a low profile and only date her in private, and Claire isn’t having that, and they break up, until Luke finally figures out what it is he wants. This is the debut YA novel from author O’Shaughnessy, and it’s a good one. There’s nothing like a good teen romance, with two characters you root for to be together. A perfect book to kick off fall.
