Book Review: ‘A Proposal They Can’t Refuse: A Novel’ By Natalie Caña

Two Grandas force their grandchildren to marry in order to save their respective businesses in Chicago. Kamilah Vega works at her families Puerto Rican Restaurant with her parents. She wants to update and modernize the place but her parents refuse. She also wants to get them on the annual fall foodie tour. Liam works at the family distillery with his granda and soon learns he has terminal cancer. He wants Liam married before her dies and who better than Kamilah, they’ve known each other since they were kids and tells them if they don’t get married he will sell the building that houses their businesses. Kamilah and Liam decide to go along with it as long as granda gets treatment to try and save his life. THe two of them of course fall for each other until misunderstandings drive them apart. Liam has a secret he never has gotten over and Kamilah has trutst issues. Liam decides to go for what he wants with a grand jesture but is it too late? This is a fun rom-com, with two characters you root for and want to be together. The setting is great and helps enhance the story.
