Israel ‘DT’ Toro had a good childhood until he turned 14 and his father died after DT made a promise to look after his brother and sisters. A year later his mother died, and he kept his promise and then decided he was ready to join the Air Force when his family was old enough to take care of themselves. He met his wife in Mexico, and she became pregnant, while DT served his tours, and barely saw his wife and son. He was loyal to his family, and his fellow soldiers, and then tragedy struck. His Humvee rolled over a bomb in Afghanistan, and his body badly burned, and he should have been dead. He somehow survived, was in a coma for three months, 80 percent of his body burned, and his wife was stuck in Mexico for a time. He survived and even though his whole life was different now, he decided to live his life to the fullest. This is his story, and it’s a heartwarming tale of survival and the will to live. He could have given up (and at one brief moment he almost did) and has gone on to work for wounded soldiers, participated in the Invictus games, became friends with Prince Harry, Presidents and been able to be a dad to his son and husband to his wife. This book will touch your heart and put a smile on your face by the time you finish it.
