The first novel in this new series (and hopefully there are more), is a fun, delightful, well-written book, with lots of great characters, and a great setting. The year is 1784 in London, and Tiffany Woodall, who is forty and single lives with her half-brother, and runs the house, and puts up with his mean ways, for she is poor, and has nowhere to go. When she finds him dead in his bed, she buries him in the backyard, and she takes over being him. She dresses in his clothes, and can pass for him. She does his job as librarian for the Duke of Beaufort, and everyone is fooled by her. When one of the maids is found dead, she was poisoned, she figures out her brother was as well. Being two people is a lot of work, and she has a lot of excuses to make, and situations arise that put her in difficult positions, like when the local rector wants to make her his wife. She has to act fast to protect herself, find a killer, and stop a potential marriage. This is a perfect beach read.
