Charlaine Harris is back with book number two in her Gunnie Rose series. Following the events of the last book Gunnie is now with a new crew. They’re headed to Dixie and the town of Sally. They have a crate they need to protect and deliver. The crew is on a train and almost there. Then their is an explosion and the train is blown up. Gunnie along with a couple of other of the crew survive and are under attack for the mysterious crate. They manage to survive and the police and emergency personal are on the scene.
During the melee on the ground the crate is stolen and out of the blue Eli, a Gregori (he has magical powers and is part of the Russian family) is there. Eli and Gunnie had a thing in the first book and he is also on the hunt to make sure the crate gets to Sally. He and Gunnie team up as a married couple, since single women are treated like second class citizens. They go on the hunt for the crate, at times Eli has to use his magic. They are also being hunted by other Gregori and by people that want the crate for themselves. It leads to a dramatic showdown, someone being injured and a daring escape attempt and a shocking reveal of what is in the crate.
A solid follow up to the first book with more character development and a great duo in Gunnie and Eli. Hopefully after this book there will be more adventures with these two and hopefully they can be together for good. Charlaine Harris always writes great books, characters and stories. This series doesn’t disappoint.
