Book Review: ‘A Game Of Fear: An Ian Rutledge Novel’ By Charles Todd

Book number 24 in the Inspector Ian Rutledge series finds Ian with a most perplexing case, an alleged murder, with no body and a ghost as the killer. It’s 1921 and Ian is sent to investigate in the village of Walmer on the coast of Essex. Lady Benton swears she saw a man murdered and it was by a ghost. There’s no evidence at all that any type of murder took place and Ian is not sure what might have happened. She insists it was one Captain Nelson who was the killer but he died during the war. Then another shocking murder takes place and Ian now has a lot of investigating to do and learns there are a lot of secrets in this small village and that someone is willing to kill to keep them a secret. Another well-written novel in the series and as good as any previous novels. A fun and satisfying story.
