The year is 1982 and Dawn is a young bride married to Heron and they have a little girl, Maggie who is three. Dawn feels like there’s something off with her life and when she meets Hazel everything changes. They start an affair and fall in love. When she tells Heron he files for divorce and custody, being a lesbian in 1982 was not like it is today. Forward to 2022 and Maggie is now married and has two kids and has always had questions about her mother and her past. When Heron tells her news about her health, everything changes between her and her father and secrets are soon revealed. This is the debut novel from author Lynch and it’s great, she’s someone to keep an eye on. At its core it’s about family and the injustice gay people faced years ago. A perfect summer read.
