Book Review: ‘A Divided Loyalty’ The Next Thrilling Inspector Ian Rutledge Mystery

The mother/son writing team of Charles Todd is back with book number 22 in their Ian Rutledge series. This time around Ian investigates the murder of a woman. The only problem is it was already investigated by his co-worker Brian Leslie, who couldn’t find the murderer.

After he solves the murder of a woman, Ian Rutledge is given the case file of another murder in the town of Avebury near Stonehenge. Brian Leslie has not been able to find the murder and case seemed to be over. What Ian doesn’t know is Brian had a reaction when he saw the body and we are let to believe he may have known her. So he starts his investigation and it leads to Brian but he doesn’t want to believe it could be him.

With the voice of Hamish in his head (this is always the best parts of the book) he investigates, finds himself in danger and more bodies piling up. Ian must figure out quickly who is responsible and prove it or be in trouble with the yard.

Another solid novel with one of the best characters in books Ian Rutledge along with the voice of his dead friend Hamish. And the setting of England in 1921 helps with the plot overall. I look forward to these books every year.

You can pick up A Divided Loyalty in stores on Tuesday, February 4th from Morrow.
