Netflix brought back the classic 60’s series with a whole new look to it. And it succeeded. It doesn’t have the cheese factor the first one had (and that is not a slam as the 60’s series was awesome). This new series is set 30 years into the future and contains a great cast Toby Stephens as John Robinson, Molly Parker as Maureen Robinson, Taylor Russell is Judy, Mina Sundwall is Penny, and Max Jenkins is Will Robinson. Playing the legendary role of Dr. Smith is Parker Posey and Don West is played by Ignacio Serricchio.
The family takes off not knowing that Dr. Smith is aboard and ends up crash landing on a planet but they are not alone. There are other humans there as well. Dr. Smith has taken control of the robot and is using him to cause problems. Each member of the family goes through a situation that could cost them their lives. And we learn via flashbacks that now all was well with the Robinson family before they entered this space program and took off. Through the 10 episode season a lot happens and the number of episodes was perfect for season one to introduce everyone and get story-lines going.
This new series is a bit darker and more serious. The look and feel of it makes it its own series. The casting is spot on especially Parker Posey as Dr. Smith. The design of the robot is crisp and clean and the special effects and look of the show is top-notch. The show left lots of questions for season two (and Netflix did indeed renew it).
While we wait for season two you can pick up and binge watch season one in stores on Tuesday, June 4th from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment.
