Harry Bosch is looking to get the evidence that Gregory Talbot killed his wife twenty-five years ago. He was the prime suspect, but Bosch never got the evidence to put him away. He knows that Talbot will be at the cemetery and Harry brings flowers with a hidden microphone in them, and Renee Ballard is in a van listening as Talbot and his wife confess to the killing. Soon, they are arrested, and a hearing is held to determine if the recording is legal. Bosch finally hears back from Haller, the Lincoln lawyer, about the lawsuit that was brought against MacLaren Children’s Center for what happened to the children in 1965. He donates his award to a charity in the name of his friend who was murdered back then, Charles Lamb, whose murder was never solved. Bosch investigates what happened back then and soon learns that the man, Nick Stockley, who he thinks killed Lamb, is wanted by the FBI and soon joins a task force in search of the man, who is wanted for a host of charges, and he soon gets the information he needs in a dramatic showdown. This is the 21st novel in the series, and it’s another good one. The dual stories, the action, and courtroom scenes are top-knotch, as usual. Fans of the series will enjoy this one.
