Esme March lives in Split Pine Island, which is off the coast of Michigan. She owns Lucky Pine Diner, known for its pies, far and wide, some of the pies even have a little magic in them, whoever eats them usually gets some luck in their life. It’s November, which means the tourists are all leaving, and the island basically shuts down for the winter. When Esme is getting her last produce order for the year, a new man named Jeff Kelly brings the delivery, and raises the prices, which irks Esme, and others on the island. The next day, he’s found dead, and Esme is a suspect. She decides to investigate a bit, and soon finds other potential suspects, much to the chagrin of Sheriff Tom, who warns her to stay out of it, and she even gets a warning to back off. She soon finds herself in trouble, and needs some of her magic pie to save herself. A good start to another small-town mystery series, with fun supporting characters, and lots of cute animals.
