The first book in a new detective series, finds cold case detective Van Reed, who is widowed, called to the scene of a murdered woman, who was buried alive. When the investigation starts, it leads to a cold case from 1980, when two little girls went missing, and never found. This is one of those girls. She’s in charge of the cold case along with forensic scientist Harry Steinback. Working the present day murder, is an a-hole detctive out of Minneapolis, who has it out for Reed. Van is sure that the second missing girl is still alive, and retraces, and interviews as many of the people from 1980 still around. A mysterious person is watching her, and when she gets too close, tries to take her out. Van is determined to find the other girl, and bring this person to justice, no matter the cost. This is a great start to this series, with two well-written characters, a strong mystery, and just enough twists to keep you engaged. Hopefully more stories with these two will be coming.
