Book Review: ‘The Woman In The Dark’ Is A Thrilling Novel With Lots Of Twists And Turns

Sarah and Patrick are married and have a 15 year old daughter named Mia and a 17 year old son Joe (who is Patrick’s biological son but Sarah is not the biological mother). Joe is not aware of this fact. His mother Eve died after he was born. They have been happy until Sarah’s mother died a year ago. She has struggled with the death. She almost overdoses and everyone is worried about her. She says it was an accident and she wasn’t trying to kill herself.

Patrick wants a fresh start for his family and wants to move back to his home town and his old family home that his parents lost years ago. It’s on the market now. There’s only one thing…it’s now known as THE MURDER HOUSE. 15 years ago 3 people were murdered in the house. Sarah does want to do this nor do the kids. But they decide to move there. As they get settled in weird things start to happen. Things are being left at the front door, strange writings on the walls and Patrick becoming a different person. He starts to get angry more and even violent. He won’t let anyone in the cellar and is lying about things.

Sarah meets people in town who knew Patrick and hint at secrets. Sarah starts investigating more and soon learns shocking things. All four of them seem to have their own secrets which collide as the story goes on. Someone is targeting the family in the house. Sarah soon figures out the truth but it may be too late for her and the family.

The book has twists and turns you don’t see coming and lead to a shocking climactic reveal. I wasn’t able to put the book down as it’s a real page turner. Just when you think you might have things figured out a new twist is thrown in. This is author Vanessa Savage’s debut thriller and she will be one to watch in the future.

You can pick up the book in stores on Tuesday, March 12th from Grand Central Publishing.
