Set in Salisbury, England, this is the story of Dr. Rachel Goodchild (who is 49), married to Nathan but their marriage hasn’t really been much of one in years and the mother of Lizzie (wno she has a strained relationship with). One night Luc shows up late having a bit of a breakdown. He’s been treated before and Rachel talks to him and he seems better and leaves. Then she sees him at a new neighbor’s housewarming, it’s his house. Then they hook up while in France and he gives her some paintings. Then two people associated with her medical office are found murdered. Rachel is pulled in for questioning and we see everything that led up to her being brought in. Her affair comes out and with that other secrets involving her husband, her daughter, Luc, his wife and brother. It all leads to who committed the murders and why. A solid thriller with some good twists and turns to keep you engaged. It’s good but I’ve already read better thrillers this year.
You can pick up The Patient in stores on Tuesday, May 3rd from William Morrow.
