Jack Girard lost his older brother, and best friend Bobby, when they were in college together to a drug overdose. Now years later Jack, an ex-lawyer, runs a bar in Key West, wakes up hungover, with a call-girl he knows in his bed. He phones start ringing, and it’s his estranged, domineering high-powered lawyer father to tell him his mother is dead of a drug overdose. Jack rushes to the family home in Miami, and is overwhelmed with losing his mother. Of course, his father wants to keep this as low-key as he can, just like with Bobby. There was a note left by his mother, just like his brother did, and Jack things there’s something funny going on, and will everything he can to find out the shocking truth. A good debut thriller novel from author James Polkington, with twists and turns, and an ending you don’t expect.
