I love the Liam Taggart and Catherine Lockhart novels. They’re always well written and the characters are like old friends to visit every year. Author Balson (Once We Were Brothers, Eli’s Promise and many more) knows how to write a book that’s compelling and keeps the reader interested. It’s 2018 in Chicago and Catherine Lockhart is approached to possibly represent Britta Stein who has been spray-painting accusations against Ole Henryks, a local owner of a restaurant. She is accusing him of working for the Nazi’s when they lived in Denmark during WWII. He denies the charges and Britta is arrested, fined and now is being sued for defamation. At first Catherine doesn’t want to take the case but Britta convinces her and she soon learns her story of living in Denmark during the war (via Britta recounting everything) and what happened to herself and her family and how Ole played into their lives. With no solid evidence, Catherine is worried about how she will defend Britta. Liam goes to Denmark to look for evidence and isn’t having a lot of luck and the case will hinge on Catherine’s ability as a lawyer when the case comes to trial. When push comes to shove, Catherine and Liam are the two people you want in your corner. Another winner from Ronald H. Balson.
