Gabriel Praest is a former cop in Copenhagen, now a private investigator. He’s also a part-time musician, loves to ride his bike, and is determined to finish up renovating his house. When his ex-girlfriend, asks him to investigate a murder from 5 years ago that put Yousef Ahmen, a refugee, in prison, he jumps at the chance. He’s been in prison five years, with what seems like conclusive proof, yet something about the case seems funny. Gabriel starts investigating, and some things don’t add up, and soon he and his family find themselves in danger. Someone doesn’t want them digging into this case. The case leads him back to WWII, and how Denmark treated the Jews, and a traitor working for the country then, and with family ties now. Gabriel only hopes he lives long enough to get to the truth. This is the first novel in this new series, and it’s great. The character of Gabriel Praest is well-written, clever, funny, and smart. I can’t wait to read more novels with him, his supporting cast of characters, and his quest to finish his house.
