Book number seven in the Tracy Crosswhite series finds Tracey, her lawyer husband Dan and their two month old daughter back in Cedar Grove while their house is being renovated. It brings back memories of the past and the bad things that happened. Tracy is still deciding if she will go back to work as a detective in Seattle when her maternity leave is over. Dan is working a case against the town, who are trying to redo the downtown area.

Tracy is asked to help with a case that new (old police chief) has on his desk. It involves the murder of Kimberly, a writer for the local paper and wife of the police chief, who is on a forced leave and may be a suspect in the case. She was also looking into the murder of a high-school teenager girl Heather in 1993. That case was solved but some people think not correctly. And it also opens up the look at a lawyer who was murdered and was also looking into the case of Heather.

Tracy starts digging and asking questions and soon finds her life in danger. Someone does not want her looking into the case. And Dan during his discovery phases finds new evidence to support his case and it may overlap with what Tracy is investigating. They put their heads together and soon figure out things are not what they seem and Dan forms a plan to use his case to help Tracey solve her case as well. It leads to a stunned courtroom and Tracy’s live in mortal danger.

My first time reading one of these Tracey books and I really liked it. The character is a strong-female, well-written and the story flowed and kept my interest throughout the story. I look forward to more novels with Tracy.

You can pick up A Cold Trail in stores on Tuesday, February 4th from Thomas & Mercer.
