Jane and her brother Tom are driving through the Appalachian mountains heading to a cabin to celebrate Thanksgiving with their family. Things are not good between the two since something happened a few months ago that changed their lives. While stopping at market to pick up some things, all hell breaks loose. Some sort of monster is out in the dark, having killed one man. They hunker down in the store with other locals, and the monster is outside. It turns out this creature feeds on the guilt and the bad things these people have done and wants their hearts, and we slowly learn what each of them has done. As more of them die, a plan is devised to try and destroy the creature once and for all. An intense horror thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat. With all the twists and turns, this is one great novel to read just in time for Halloween.
