The setting is Daybreak Island, Massachusetts, for the 10th novel in the series. Maddie runs a cat cage, has a coffee/cat truck for parties, and it’s been very successful. When she gets a call from Olivia McAllister wanting to book a birthday party in just three days, Maddie is about to say no, until she offers to triple the payment. It turns out Olivia is her mother’s best friend, who left the island years ago after a family member, Aunt Delia, went missing, and no one has heard from her since then. Excited to see her, they head to her estate, along with JJ the cat, to meet with her, only to find her dead, her granddaughter at the beach by herself, and a mysterious cat who vanishes. The police are called, and Maddie is told to back off, as the family is very powerful and contributes to the town in a big way. She and her grandfather, the former police chief, investigate on their own, and there are a number of potential suspects, a mystery involving the legend of the cat. Another fun novel in the series, with all the regular group of characters, and JJ the cat. Fans of the series will enjoy this one.
