Effie and her family grew up in the New Zealand bush, and when her mother died in childbirth, it changed Effie. Her father took off for a while, and she had to tend to the family and the new baby. She finally escaped the bush and made a life for herself in Scotland. When her childhood friend, Lewis, calls with shocking news, a young girl, named Anay, has come to their small town and she looks exactly like Effie. She drops everything and flies back home and wonders how the girl, who won’t talk, is related to her. To figure out what is going on, she must return to the place she never wanted to go back to and figure out once and for all what has been going on there. The story is told in before, Effie growing up chapters, and now with what is going on. This is an intense novel that starts off fast and never lets up. So sit back and enjoy this thrilling ride. A great debut novel!
