The setting is Cross River, North Carolina, and Silas Tucker, the high school principal and former football star, whose career was cut short by an injury, is on his way to work when he is shot to death, and the killer is never found. Now, ten years later, Silas Tucker, like his father, is a football star, playing quarterback, came in second in Heisman voting, and has been drafted by the Steelers. Before he can report, he’s in a car accident, his body broken, and his best friend dead. After he recovers, he works on the family farm and wants to help clean up his town. A series of murders and young girls vanishing, and drugs running throughout the town. It all seems to lead to the Crockett family, who are rich and powerful. What follows is a war between the good guys and the bad guys, and who is left standing once the war is over. This is another outstanding novel from authors Patterson and Lupica, who never write anything bad. The story, the action, and the awesome Silas Tucker, one of the best written characters of the year. This book is not to be missed.
