Gabriel Allon is in the process of restoring a painting when Edward Knight, a billionaire in real estate and a baron, shows up needing his help; his wife, Alice, has vanished. Gabriel isn’t interested in helping him, but ends up doing it anyway. He heads to the last known place she was, on vacation with three friends. The facts make it seem like she is dead, but he believes she’s been kidnapped, and soon a ransom demand comes. Gabriel negotiates with the kidnappers, goes off to meet them, is kidnapped himself, the money is transferred, and Gabriel finds himself released, with no sign of Alice. With some digging, he soon finds out what Edward has really been up to, locates Alice, and learns the shocking truth of what’s been going on. Soon, a plan is put into place to trap the real bad guys, and once again Gabriel is at the forefront, and his life is once again in danger. This is the 26th novel in the series, and it’s another good one. The series just keeps getting better and better. Fans of the series will enjoy this one a lot.
