The story takes place in Blackbridge, where making a living is hard. You can also sell your body or soul to try and survive. Eda Shaw and her brothers have a shop and hidden below is a mirror that connects with a demon, named Mr. Night, who will make a pact with you in exchange for taking years of your life. Many years ago their late father made a deal with him, and now the children have to honor it. It is illegal to own one of these mirrors and soon the law arrives and arrests her two brothers, and Eda manages to escape. She makes a deal with Kit, a demon and Mr. Night’s brother, in which she gives him fifty years in exchange for his help freeing her brothers. She also wants to take down the man responsible for her brothers’ imprisonment, a plan that could prove deadly to her, her brothers and Kit. Along the way Eda and Kit fall for each other but a complication threatens to end their love. This is a fun, magical mystery novel that hits all the right notes. The lovestory between Eda and Kit the Demon is heartwarming, and the supporting characters, including Robin and Tripp are a hoot. A great novel for fall reading.
