Former London detective Jake Johnson now lives in a remote countryside house, having inherited money and not needing to work. He doesn’t even have internet or a car. He lives a quiet life with his girlfriend, Livia, who is expecting their child. When he hears about a local nurse who has gone missing, he helps search for her, and the woman’s husband asks Jake to look into her disappearance. He is known for solving cases, and soon more bodies are found, all in the river, with no obvious connection. He teams up with a stellar crew of supporting characters and soon finds himself in danger when the killer holds him hostage, and aims to kill Livia. This is the fourth novel in the series, and it’s another good one. The small-town murder mystery, with fun characters and a heartfelt love story between Jake and Livia, makes for a good summer beach read.
