Whit Longacre is a writer, and was married to Helen, also a writer of a very successful children’s series, who died a year ago of cancer. He’s now a single dad of an eight-year-old daughter, Annie. Helen left him her series and asked that he write the fifth and final novel, something he has been struggling to do. With a deadline coming up, he knows he has to write it or risk a new writer coming in to do it. When Whit meets Merritt, who works at a local bookstore and is a writer herself, something happens to him and he asks her to help him write the novel, she is very familar with the series. They work well together and finish the book, and fall for each other, until Helen’s journals are found, and she had a different vision for this novel, and Whit wants to start over. Merritt does not, and they disagree on this, and it ends their partnership, until Merritt makes a grand gesture that could change everything. This is the debut novel from author Andrew Forrester, and it’s a great one. Watching these two characters put their hurt and pasts behind them is touching and you will fall in love with them as well. This is one of the best heartwarming novels of the year.
