Aubrey is like every young girl; she wants to be happy and in love, and thinks she has it with Jonathan. The only problem is she has been too clingy with him, and he tells her he wants a break. The other problem is that Aubrey has a big secret; she’s 150 years old and a vampire, and has tried to kill herself many times over the years, with no success. She works four nights a week at a retail store in London, has a few friends, and is able to get blood bags from a blood bank. She doesn’t have typical vampire powers, and in this story, not all the rules we expect are true. She can be out in the day, for instance. Then, the man who made her a vampire, whom she never met, whose name is Oscar, suddenly shows up, determined to teach her how to be a powerful vampire and be able to protect herself. While in his care for a week over the holidays, she learns a lot about her powers, some information about her past, and who Oscar was to her. When she leaves him, she goes to Jonathan’s, hoping to get back with him, and is shocked at what she finds, and what happens to her there, and she will need all her knowledge of what she learns to escape with her life. Watching Aubrey learn about herself and being a vampire is heartwarming and exciting. This is a fun novel, and fans of vampires will enjoy this one.
