Leo has moved back to her hometown of Blue Oak, Texas, after trying to make it New York. She says this is just a temporary thing, and it means having to deal with her overbearing mother, Karina, who she has a tense relationship. She will be working for her godmother’s real estate company, taking photos of new listings. When she gets to town it’s time for the annual 4th of July parade, and she runs into Chaz, a man who is trying to sabotage Karina’s business, since he has a real estate company of his own. When she and her best friend, Emily, find his dead body in the house that is for sale, it sets off an investigation to find who killed him. Leo teams up with Jake, a detective, and soon they have a number of suspects, and everyone seems to have a secret. When Leo finally figures it out, she gets a confession, and then she learns a shocking secret that will set up the next book in the series. This is a great debut novel. Fans of small-town murder mysteries, with fun characters, will enjoy this one. I look forward to the next novel in the series.
