Dahlia Devin, who fronts a country cover band, is having a rough time. Her boyfriend left her, took the rent money, and caused her to be evicted. She has nothing but a bag of stuff she was able to grab. She heads to McPhee’s Tavern, which is owned by Alex, the man who took her in when her mother left, due to drugs and booze, twenty years ago. Her band plays there, and she has a place to star. On this same night, her mother shows up wanting to talk, and she wants nothing to do with her. The next day, she finds out that she is missing, from a half-sister, whom she never knew about. Then her boyfriend’s body is found dead outside in the alley behind to bar. She soon learns there’s a lot more going on behind the scenes at the bar, and soon finds her life in danger. A solid, fun thriller, with some lol moments, and at its core is about family. The twists and turns come quickly in the second half of the book. Another solid novel from Rader-Day.
