The year is 1921, and Scotland Yard and Inspector Ian Rutledge is planning on spending a quiet Christmas with his sister and Hamish, the voice in his head. When he gets a call from his boss, Chief Superintendent Markum, he’s to go to Kent and investigate an attempt on the life of ex-colonel Lord Braxton by a man on horseback. Braxton is worried someone is after him, and Ian is sent to try and figure out what is going on there. When he gets there, he starts to question if Braxton was really hit by someone, and he has to deal with the man, whom he is not very fond of. On top of that Hamish is not helping very much with his thoughts to Rutledge, and Ian finally figures out what has been going on. This is a short Christmas Novella, with one of my favorite characters and authors. Fans of the long-running series will enjoy this one a lot.
