In 1990, the Ryan family lost their only son, Topher, and the family has not been the same since. Now 25 years later, the family is reuniting on Long Island’s North Fork, their family home, for Thanksgiving. Cait, the oldest, Alice, the middle, and Maggie, the youngest, haven’t been together under one roof for a while, and each has a secret that is sure to blow the lid off of this Irish family. Each is worried about how the rest of the family will react, especially their Catholic mother, who has clung to her religion her whole life. We follow along as secrets are revealed and how they are reacted to. It also brings up old wounds about what happened to Topher all those years ago. In order for the family to move forward, they must confront their past and come together on their futures. This is an intense, character-driven novel that you do not want to put down. Following along with this family, the secrets and everything they’ve been through is an emotional ride, and you wonder if they can ever be the same.
