There are horror movies that make you jump, and then there are movies that make you squirm. I’m the kind of person who likes both, but what I love the most is when I get disgusted to the point where I can’t decide if I should look away or keep watching. It’s even more fun watching it with friends because I love seeing them scream, cover their eyes, and be so disgusted that they start blaming me for choosing the movie in the first place. Pretty sure it’s evident how I love gore movies, so I have literally watched a ton of them over the years.
So if you’re looking for the goriest movies of all time, this list will give you what you want and more. The question is, are you ready for them? Some of them are available on some streaming services, while others have been banned in certain countries. Yes, it’s that intense. Let’s start! I’m so excited to share them with you.
1. Human Centipede 2
The first Human Centipede was already disturbing, but the sequel was just so… on a different level. The entire movie was shot in black and white, which somehow made all the blood and filth look even nastier. The story is about Martin, this unhinged guy who becomes obsessed with the original movie and decides to “outdo” it by making his own version, which is bigger and more grotesque.
The thing is, the first movie was done in a sterile, almost clinical way, like it was trying to feel “medical” and controlled. But Human Centipede 2 throws all of that out the window. Honestly, there were moments when I felt so grossed out that I wanted to look away, but my curiosity wouldn’t let me. It really tested my stomach.
2. Dead Alive
If there’s one movie that made me realize gore can actually be hilarious, it’s Dead Alive. This is Peter Jackson before The Lord of the Rings, and let me tell you, he really went all out. The story is about a guy whose mom gets bitten by a strange rat-monkey, and things spiral into a zombie outbreak that’s really outrageous.
What I really enjoyed in this movie is how it was able to balance being gross and being funny at the same time. And that lawnmower scene? Pure madness. By the end, I felt like I had just watched the goriest comedy ever made. If you’re planning to watch this on your next TV streaming session, you’re in for a great time.
3. Hostel
I went into Hostel thinking it would just be another party-gone-wrong kind of horror movie, but it completely shocked me with how brutal it was. The worst thing about this movie is how gritty the gore looked. The torture scenes weren’t over-the-top or cartoonish. They were literally raw, bloody, and uncomfortable to watch. I remember cringing so many times because the whole idea behind it was so disturbing.
4. Inside
Inside is one of those movies that left me completely unsettled. At first, it seemed pretty simple because it was just a pregnant woman alone at home on Christmas Eve. But then, a stranger shows up at her door, and what follows is one of the most violent and relentless home invasion stories I’ve ever seen.
This movie is so hard to watch because of how realistic the gore feels. The attacks are so brutal and they don’t hold back for a single second. This is also why Inside is often called one of the goriest French horror films ever made, and I’ve seen why. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy.
Final Thoughts
Gore isn’t for everyone, but for people like me who actually enjoy it, these movies are on a whole different level. Watching these films reminded me why I love horror so much. If you’re brave enough and have the stomach for it, you can’t go wrong with these titles. I hope you give them a try. Happy watching!
