The small Appalachian town of Quartz Creek, N.C., is the setting of this debut novel. Ten years ago, three young girls went missing one was returned, the other two were never found. Now Max Andrews, who is the brother of Molly, one of the girls who went missing, has hired P.I. Annie Gore to look into the missing girls and see if she can find out what happened to them. She starts to ask questions, and some people are helpful, others don’t want to deal with her. Then the dead body is found by Annie, and another girl goes missing. Strange things start to happen in town, and some people are convinced that it is a ‘witch’s curse’ that is behind everything that has happened. Annie soon finds her life in danger when she finally figures out what has been going on. This is a good psychological debut novel from author Sullivan. The location, the mythical lore and the main character of Annie are top-notch. Hopefully, more adventures with her are coming.
