Savvy Summers lives in Chicago and runsSapphire Summers Soulfood Cafe and Catering Company, using her Aunt-Essie’s very popular recipes. When Grandy Jaspers, who always sits at table 2 and orders coffee, a lot of it, and the two-biscuit special, drops dead trying a new version of Savvy’s sweet potato pie, her life goes crazy. The cafe is closed down, she’s being sued for wrongful death, and a man named Noble McPherson keeps trying to buy the cafe. She’s cleared of Grandy’s death, the lawsuit is dropped, and she makes it clear she’s not selling. To clear her name and the cafe, she teams up with Penny, her assistant, to try and clear the reputation of the cafe and find out who was responsible for Grandy’s death, who died of an overdose of viagra. This is a great debut novel, with quirky characters, a great setting, and a fun murder mystery. With lots of LOL moments, this is one of the most fun books of the summer. Hopefully, there will be more adventures with these characters.
