Ali Dawson works for the Department of Logistica in London, a secret organization that only a handful of people know about. She and her co-workers handle cold cases, and we are talking old cases, that require them to go back in time to try and solve, with special technology that allows for time travel. The Justice Minister, Isacc Templeton, who employs her son Finn, asks for their help in solving rumors of his great-grandfather being a murderer in 1850. He wants to prove that he was innocent. Ali goes back to that time, and while she’s gone, her son gets into trouble he’s accused of murder. Then Ali gets trapped in the past when someone is used by someone else by mistake, who might be a murderer, and now she has to figure out a way to get back to her own time. This is the first novel in this new series from author Elly Griffiths, who wrote the Ruth Galloway novels, and it’s a great start. The plot, the writing and the characters all click, and I can’t wait for the next chapter.
