The setting is Sevenoaks, a wealthy suburb of England. On this night it’s the annual kickoff to the summer party featuring Adam and Coralie, Emma and Matt and Twig and Blake and their various kids. When Adam goes off to get stoned he claims he saw a panther lying on his car and freaks out. The rest of the novel is about people talking about this panther and various people saying they saw it. As the summer goes on we follow these couples through various problems, marriages breaking up, a sick child needing money for treatment, a house trying to be reovated and objections to it and a secret plan involving the panther. Fans of twisty, soapy neighborhood dramas will enjoy this debut novel from author Kit Conway.
