The year is 1749 in London and Hannah Cole is struggling with her business, Punchbowl and Pineapple. after the murder of her husband Jonas. The police have been by to interview her and she has no idea who would have killed him. She also learns he had 1500 pounds stashed in the bank and she will get $500 of it, which would pay off her debts, except it’s being held up, pending the police investigation. In walks William Devereux, a gentleman who claims he knew her husband. He starts coming around more and there’s an attraction between the two. He agrees to help her look into the murder and we soon learn shocking details about Hannah and William and it soon becomes a game of cat and mouse between them. To say any more would be spoilers, let’s just say this is a really fun novel to read, with lots of twists and turns. A perfect summer beach read.
