Beatrice Steele in now in London, with her chaperone Miss Bolton, to attend the ball season, with hopes of landing a rich man to help her poor family. What she’s really here for is to build the private investigation business she has formed with Inspector Vivak Drake, on the sly from her family. They still have to deal with Huxley, who’s the number one detective in the city. On this day they get a visit from opera star, Percival Nash, who wants them to investigate the murder of Watler Shrewsbury, a member of the group NAGS, who are determined to clean up Sweetbriar, their small area near London, of anything they deem scandalous, including artists, certain opera shows, everyone needs a permit, which they give out. Nash is considered a suspect and then more members of the group are murdered and Beatrice is close to solving the case, along with Drake. Along the way, they discover they have feelings for each other and almost act on them. The novel ends on a cliffhanger, that sets up the next book. This is the second novel and it’s a great follow-up to the debut novel, A Most Agreeable Murder. The chemistry between Beatrice and Drake is off the charts, with some lol moments as well. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
