Poe is a writer who finally had a hit novel and got a Netflix deal out of it. She lives with her best friend, Zwe, who works for his parent’s bookstore. Poe is having writer’s block and books a trip for the two of them to an exclusive resort, on an island off of the Phillippines. She’s hoping it will get her creative juices flowing. They are the only guests at this time and have lots they can do during this trip. Then trouble arises when Zwe hears gunshots and they discover a group of masked women have taken over the resort and they flee to the forest and hope to make it to a village on the mountains. Things don’t go according to plan and they find themselves in trouble, Zwe finally confesses he’s in love with Poe and she tells him the same thing and it may be the last thing they say to each other with their lives in danger. This is a fun, well-written novel, with two characters that can snipe at each other one second and forget it in the next. Rom-coms don’t get much better than this.
