The year is 1801, in Scotland and Sorcha Chisholm and her son are forced out of their house, as are her neighbors, when the men come and burn everything down, in order to take over the land. In the melee, a man is killed in her house and they’re wanted for murder. They take off to try and find a new place to start over, with men on their trails to capture them. In the present day Keaky Denney and her son Colin are in Scotland, as he prepares to move there for college. His father was supposed to be on the trip, but died a year ago. They had planned to walk the mountain trail together before school. Keaky has decided to go with him on the trail. Along the way, she gets visions of Sorcha and what she went through, she is walking the path that Sorcha once did. As both their lives intersect through time and space, we learn what became of each of them and how their lives changed. This is a great novel, with the Scotland setting enhancing the story, you feel like you are there. The dual storyline hits all the right notes. This is one not to be missed.
