Thirty-three years ago, Apex, a powerful vampire, helped save hostages being held in a prison for a long time, among them Callum, a woven. They fell in love with each other, but Callum was tortured and raped numerous times, and they vanished on Apex breaking his heart. When Apex and Mayhem, another vampire, are hired to install a security system, for a rich powerful vampire, he never thought he would run into Callum, who works for the estate. They fall back in love with each other, but Callum is still suffering from the past and isn’t sure if he can commit to Apex, Mayhem falls in love with the Mahrci, a female vampire, hiding out, because her father wants her to mate with a vampire she doesn’t like, who it turns out is part of a plot to overthrow the blind king. It leads to a showdown at the house, with a massive battle and maybe love does conquer all. This is another great novel in the series. J.R. Ward writes the best novels with her compelling vampires and wolfs, and some steamy sex scenes. Fans of the series will enjoy this one.
