Charlie Webb is a lawyer in Portland, Oregon, who has a small firm and not much business. He is assigned the case of artist Guido Sabatini, real name Larry, a very smart man, who is also a bit crazy. He sells his paintings and then sometimes steals them back. He sold one to restaurant owner Gretchen Hall, who put it up in her office and not the restaurant, and he steals it back as well as breaks into her safe and steals a flash drive, which has details of a sex trafficking ring, with some pretty big people associated with it. When she and her associate are found murdered Guido is the prime suspect and now Charlie must defend him, never having worked a murder case before. He soon figures out not everyone is who they should be, more people are killed, and Charlie must fight to save the life of Guido on many occasions. This is another brilliant legal thriller from author Margolin, who excels with these typse of novels. Charlie is a great character, the story is easy to read and has twists and has a lot of twists and turns. Fans of his Robin Lockwood series will enjoy this one. I wouldn’t mind more stories with this character.
