Kay Scarpetta, the chief medical examiner in Virginia, has to do the autopsy on 7-year-old Luna Briley, who was shot dead, the daughter of a rich, powerful family, whose parents are known to be horrible people. Her parents claim she killed herself, but the evidence shows different. Kay also gets a call from her niece, Lucy, who is a secret service agent, that her old friend, and former lover, Sal Giordano, has been found dead, at a theme park, that has been shut down for years, and owned by the Briley family, and she has to autopsy his body, under secret government clearance. She finds a secret note on his body, seems he knew that someone was after him. It seems both cases could be related, and it may involve an old foe, who has been able to avoid capture for years and it becomes a game of cat and mouse. This is the 28th book in the series and it’s another good one. If you’ve ever read one of these books you know what to expect, and author Cornwell never disappoints the reader.
