The Mayhaven Beach Club has been around for a long time, it offers golf, tennis, a beach and country club status to the elite of the area. A new club has opened and memberships are down, and Ned Birch is the new man in charge, and has a lot of work to do this summer to get things back on track. When new neighbors move in next to the Birch family, and the overbearing Stepdad that brought them there. Flick is a teenage son, almost 18, and hates the move, and soon becomes friends with Darcy Birch, and they both have jobs at the club. Things are going haywire there, silverware is being stolen, liquor is missing, the head of the board is a jackass, and Ned has to deal with all of this, including finding out a shocking secret about his daughter. Ned and the Flick family know they have to do the right things for their families and even become friends by the end of the novel. This is a well-written, character-driven novel, that only author Hannah McKinnon can write. She excels at these kinds of novels and it’s a perfect beach read.
