Nicola Claughton has been a vampire for two centuries and has always had companions with her, who end up leaving her or vanishing. The year is 1979, the height of disco, and Amber Wells, who is married, and not happily, loves to be out dancing, and is spotted by Nicola, who wants her. She ends up turning Amber, with a promise never to hurt he ex-husband. Now fifty years later she has broken this promise and Amber is fed up with being with Nicola, but leaving her isn’t an easy thing to do. When they decide to open their own club, Amber comes up with a plan to leave her, especially after learning more shocking news about what she has done to her loved ones, and it leads to a shocking event on the opening night of the new club. This is an excellent, well-written novel, with a nice nod to disco (which I loved back in the day). With flashbacks to Nicola’s life, and a shocking reveal, this is a good end-of-summer novel.
