Martha Ratliff, is a librarian in Maine and has been married to Alan for a year. She was sure she wanted to marry him but decided to. They have been happy or so it seems. He’s away a lot, he is a salesman, and on the road a lot. On this return, he seems different, more sullen. She also finds blood on his white shirt. She googles the town he was in, and finds that a woman jumped from a hotel balcony, the same place Alan was at. Likewise, she looks into all the places he’s been recently, she finds a lot more dead women, and soon thinks she’s married to a killer. She calls her old friend Lily, and soon they devise a plot where Lily will follow Alan and see if she can figure out anything and is shocked when a blast from the past also shows up and slowly sorted details are revealed and not everything is as it seems, and one of them will not survive. This is another great psychological thriller, with twists and turns, from author Swanson, who never writes a bad novel.
