James Falconer is a Major during The Great War, and suffers injuries to his legs. He is hospitals for almost two years, and lucky he didn’t lose the use of them. All this time he’s thinking of how to reunite with his estranged daughter Leonie. Her mother Georgiana, an old love, is by his side helping him out. He hopes she will be able to bring him and Leonie back together. They fall in love again, and he wants to marry her, but it doesn’t work out. He moves forward, concentrating on his vast business fortune, spending time with friends, and falling in love with a younger woman. James has a lot going on, and must deal with putting his past behind him, and securing his business, during a downtime in the London economy, and deciding what his future will be. This final novel is great, a very well-written character driven novel, that only Barbara Taylor Bradford could write.
