Jane Hunter is 60, and forced into retirement from her job as a librarian at the university. She sells her house, finds a small apartment, and gets a job with Cameron Clewe, a rich collector of books. She will be archiving and do inventory of his collection. He’s a bit of a shut-in, has a family history, in a big mansion, that say is haunted. The first day of her job, after a big gala fundraiser took place, she finds the dead body of Cameron’s ex. With any number of suspects, Jane and Cam decide to team up to figure out what happened to her, and who is the murderer. Jane finds out most of the information, and shares it will him, at times not sure if he might have killed her. But someone doesn’t like her getting too close to the truth, and it puts her in danger, and it could end her life. This is a fun start to this new series. I always enjoy author Victoria Gilbert’s books. They’re small-town murder mysteries, with fun characters, some of them quite quirky, and easy to read stories. Hopefully more novels with these two will be coming.

You can pick up A Cryptic Clue in stores on Tuesday, July 11th from Crooked Lane.
