Book Review: ‘The Legacies: A Novel’ By Jessica Goodman

The Legacy Club is an exclusive club for high school students to join, only the best of the best will ever be offered a chance to join. Usually it’s because a parent or someone close has already been a member. It means social status, college help, and social status. For Bernie, her boyfriend Skyler, and Isobel, her best friend, it’s a given they will be admitted. What is a shock if Tori has also been invited. She doesn’t have the social status the others have. On the night of the ball someone dies, and we go back in time to four days before the ball, and learn all the events leading up to the tragic night, each chapter told by one of the characters. We don’t learn the identity of the dead person until the very end, and there are many twists and turns to keep us guessing, and engaged in this spell-binding, psychological thriller. One of the best books so far this summer.
